Influencer Sydney Towle died on August 5, 2026, at the age of 26, her family announced on her Instagram page. Her death followed an announcement two days prior that she had entered hospice care amid her battle with a rare form of bile duct cancer.
Towle was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma at age 23. She gained a significant following by documenting her treatment journey on social media, sharing both the challenges and milestones she experienced. Her family described her as "an endless ray of sunshine" and expressed pride in her fight.
Her brother, Austin, shared a TikTok post confirming Towle's move to hospice, stating she was surrounded by friends and family. He told the Daily Mail that his sister had "fought so hard" and made a positive impact on many.
In late April, Towle revealed that her chemotherapy had stopped being effective, leading to the growth of her cancer. She expressed both hope and fear about her prognosis, stating her desire for more time and experiences. Shortly after, her oncologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering recommended transitioning to end-of-life care, a recommendation Towle did not immediately accept.
Towle then sought care at another hospital, where a new oncologist cleared her to continue treatment after reviewing her scans. In May, she walked the runway at Miami Swim Week for the Chemo Club x Post Swim show, modeling swimwear designed for individuals with post-cancer bodies. This experience was particularly meaningful for Towle, who had struggled with body image due to medical implants and changes.
Despite her worsening condition, Towle maintained a positive outlook, often encouraging her followers to "just keep swimming." She acknowledged the difficulty of reading comments speculating about her remaining time but maintained a belief in miracles and refused to let fear dictate her perspective. She had been preparing for a new phase of an experimental tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte (TIL) clinical trial.
