Lorna Luxe, 43, has revealed that prior to the death of her husband, John Andrews, in February, she lacked basic financial independence, admitting she did not own a bank card and had never paid a bill. Andrews died at age 64 following a battle with stage four adrenal cancer.
In an interview on Davina McCall's Begin Again podcast, Luxe explained that Andrews had managed all practical and financial matters during their 16-year marriage. She stated that he recognized early on that she found paying bills and other administrative tasks uninteresting and was happy to handle them. This arrangement led to a situation where Luxe felt her life was managed entirely by her husband, allowing her to focus solely on her public persona.
As Andrews' health declined, he reportedly grew concerned about Luxe's ability to manage independently. Luxe shared that in the days leading up to his death, their conversations centered on his fear that she would be in significant difficulty after he was gone due to her lack of practical financial knowledge.
Following Andrews' death, Luxe described the immediate aftermath as overwhelming, with bills accumulating and her house in disarray. She recounted needing to order a bank card just two days after his passing. A few days later, an attempt to pay a bill using her late husband's banking app was flagged by the bank, who informed her she needed her own account to conduct transactions.
Luxe is still in the process of settling affairs. She described the initial period as a "car crash" but has adopted a strategy of tackling tasks incrementally. She stated that she opens letters one by one and deals with them, a process that has become less daunting over time.
She also shared that she experiences "incredibly low moments" and finds weekends particularly challenging due to loneliness. Luxe noted that while her weekdays are busy with work and managing staff for her business, the weekend often brings a sense of isolation, especially if she has not made plans. She mentioned that simple tasks like preparing meals, which her husband previously handled, now highlight his absence.
Luxe and Andrews met when she was 25 and worked as a Virgin Atlantic flight attendant. They married in New York and later settled in the UK. Andrews, who previously worked in banking, left his job after his cancer diagnosis in 2023 to focus on his health and support his wife's influencer career.
Luxe had previously expressed disbelief at becoming a widow at 43, stating she had anticipated many more years with her husband, who was 21 years her senior. She reflected that while the age gap was a factor, she believed his longevity, similar to his parents, would grant them more time together.
