Influencer Lorna Luxe, 43, has opened up about the profound grief and unexpected reality of becoming a young widow after her husband, John Andrews, died at the age of 64. Andrews passed away in February after a battle with stage four adrenal cancer, diagnosed in 2023.
Luxe, who was married to Andrews for 16 years, spoke candidly in an interview with The Telegraph about her disbelief at her current circumstances. Despite a 21-year age gap between them, she had anticipated many more years together, citing his parents' longevity as a basis for her belief.
"I genuinely believed that we’d have decades together," Luxe wrote. "But if he had been younger, he wouldn’t have been John, so I wouldn’t change a thing."
She described the difficulty of adapting to life without him, stating, "I honestly thought we had years left together – he was 64, too young to die really. Instead, aged 43, I’m navigating life as a widow. I can’t get used to that word – or the fact that he’s gone."
Luxe shared intimate details of the aftermath of his death, including still sleeping on her side of the bed and keeping his clothes. She recalled his passing as a "slow and sad death," where "every breath became a chore," a stark contrast to the peaceful end she had envisioned.
Amidst her grief, Luxe has found solace in notes left by her husband. She also revealed that Andrews, in his protective nature, left instructions for her, including securing her 15-carat engagement ring at a separate property to deter potential thieves. "He did leave a list of things that he'd asked me to do, and that was one of them, I think, more just to protect me a little bit," Luxe explained on Instagram.
She added that she no longer feels safe wearing such valuable jewelry in London and has placed her diamonds in a safe deposit box for safekeeping, though she has not parted with them.
Luxe also reflected on their past decision not to have children. They had tried when they first married, but after she did not conceive, she focused on her career. In recent years, she had reconsidered the possibility of starting a family, but her husband's illness led her to set aside those thoughts. Now, she faces significant decisions alone, having recently inquired about egg freezing.
Luxe and Andrews met when she was 25 and working as a Virgin Atlantic flight attendant. They married in New York shortly after. Andrews, a former banker, left his job after his cancer diagnosis in 2023 to focus on his health and support his wife's burgeoning influencer career. The couple enjoyed lavish travel and hotel stays, prioritizing living life to the fullest in their later years together.
