Influencer Lauren Cummings Johnson Welcomes Baby Boy After Daughter's Death
The social media personality shared the news of her son's arrival, just over a year after her nine-month-old daughter passed away from a rare genetic condition.
Influencer Lauren Cummings Johnson has welcomed a baby boy, James Wilson Johnson Jr., born on October 7. The announcement comes approximately 18 months after the tragic death of her nine-month-old daughter, Lily Ann.
Johnson, 34, shared the news via Instagram, writing, "Born October 7 at 3.06pm, weighing 8lbs 12oz, just like his big sister in heaven." She added that the family is "soaking up every second of this sweet newborn bubble" and expressed immense gratitude for their new son.
Lily Ann was born in July 2024 with citrullinemia type 1, a rare metabolic disorder that prevents the body from breaking down protein, leading to ammonia buildup. Cummings Johnson documented her daughter's health struggles online, sharing updates with her 62,000 followers. Initially diagnosed with an infection, doctors later identified the rare genetic condition approximately 18 hours after Lily Ann's birth.
Despite early ICU admissions and a challenging start, Lily Ann was discharged from the hospital less than a month after her birth. However, on April 7, 2025, the couple announced that Lily Ann had passed away at precisely nine months old. They described her as a "beautiful miracle" and expressed gratitude for the time they had with her, finding solace in their faith.
Reflecting on her recent pregnancy, Cummings Johnson told People magazine that the experience was a mix of joy, gratitude, fear, and grief. "We carried so much trauma from everything we went through with Lily Ann’s sickness and diagnosis, and navigating another pregnancy brought a lot of those emotions back to the surface," she admitted.
She noted that moments typically associated with the excitement of pregnancy, such as feeling the baby move, could be triggering due to the trauma experienced during Lily Ann's illness. "It was such a mix of emotions: joy, gratitude, fear and grief, all existing at the same time," she shared.
The couple sees their newborn son as a "a gift from Heaven." They also noted that James was born with a birthmark on his face, which they interpret as a special sign from their late daughter. "The doctors call [these types of birthmarks] 'angel kisses,'" Cummings Johnson said, adding, "We love imagining that his big sister in Heaven gave him kisses right on his face before he came into the world."
Moving forward, the family is focused on honoring Lily Ann's memory and finding ways to keep her a part of their daily lives. "She will always be part of our family, our story, and everything we do," Cummings Johnson stated.
