An Oklahoma influencer was killed by her estranged husband in a murder-suicide after she publicly accused him of being a pedophile on TikTok. The woman's son called 911, reporting that his stepfather had shot his mother.
Authorities responding to the call at the Owasso home late Thursday found Sara Gilson, 43, and Jeremiah “Shawn” Duffey, 48, dead from apparent gunshot wounds. A 911 dispatcher, listening to the son's call, reported hearing "screaming and crying" and "some sort of loud bang in the background."
The dispatcher also noted the involvement of "a male that we were looking for a few weeks ago after he got caught kissing a juvenile," and mentioned "a gun being involved."
Gilson had filed for an emergency protective order against Duffey on July 10, alleging he was suicidal and armed. Court records indicated that Duffey was ordered to leave the family home and maintain a distance of 100 yards from Gilson. Duffey, who coached youth basketball, had been accused by a mother of kissing and touching her 15-year-old daughter during a tournament. According to court documents, the girl also reported that Duffey had invited her to his hotel room and offered her money to remain silent.
Gilson had previously filed two emergency protective orders against Duffey in 2022, but those were dismissed when she did not appear for her hearings. Weeks before the fatal incident, Gilson posted a TikTok video, framed as a documentary trailer, stating her film would be "about my soon-to-be ex-husband who I just found out is a pedophile."
