Far-left influencer Hasan Piker has ignited controversy after appearing at the College Democrats of America 2026 Summer Convention in an outfit resembling that of former Communist dictator Mao Zedong. Piker delivered a speech to the college students, which was widely shared on social media and criticized for its historical allusions and anti-establishment message.
During his address on July 19, 2026, Piker stated, "No more to Trumpism, but no more to the Democrats who compromise, who conciliate, and who betray us." He continued, "No more to the fascist reactionaries, but no more to the Democrats who will collaborate and cooperate with the fascists, who will fund ICE, who will fund Israel, who will help poison the planet, who will stiff workers and help bosses."
The visual of Piker in a Mao-style suit and his speech generated immediate backlash online. Spencer Pratt, a former Los Angeles mayoral candidate, commented on X, stating that Piker's appearance was indicative of communism and that Mao Zedong killed more people than Hitler. GOP strategist Matt Whitlock also posted on X, calling the attire and speech "cosplay communism."
Piker has previously expressed admiration for Mao Zedong. In a clip recirculating online, Piker called Mao "one of the great leaders of this world who changed the entire universe." Ahmed Fouad Alkhatib, a senior fellow at the Atlantic Council, noted on X that Piker's admiration for Mao, whom historians estimate was responsible for tens of millions of deaths, was part of an effort to influence the Democratic Party.
Responding to criticism that his speech was "Hitler-style," Piker questioned on X, "no more to fascist trumpism and no more to the democrats who collaborate w fascists by funding ice and israel is a hitler style speech to you?"
Piker commands a significant online following, with approximately 10 million followers across various platforms. He has previously endorsed far-left political candidates and has been criticized for past inflammatory comments, including remarks about 9/11.
A member of the College Democrats of America Executive Board in New York told Fox News Digital that platforming figures like Piker is detrimental to the party's broader electability. The board member expressed concern that associating with Piker could harm the party's efforts to counter the influence of "MAGA affordability crisis" and authoritarian politics, particularly in the lead-up to the November midterm elections.
Fox News Digital has reached out to Piker's team and the College Democrats of America for comment. The College Democrats of America have not yet released an official statement regarding the incident.
