The friendship between social media personalities Sam Guggenheimer and Bill Barker has fractured, with Guggenheimer attributing the split to Barker's desire to release a personal podcast episode against her wishes following a recent fat-shaming scandal. Barker, however, disputes key aspects of Guggenheimer's account.

The public disagreement stems from a TikTok video posted in March, where Barker made a fat-shaming remark in the background of a clip Guggenheimer was filming. Guggenheimer, 24, initially apologized for posting the video, stating the language was inappropriate, but later suggested the comment was an inside joke taken out of context.

According to Guggenheimer, the friendship ended shortly after this controversy, during Coachella, because Barker intended to release a podcast episode they had recorded in February. She claims they had agreed not to release the episode to allow both to focus on their mental health and learn from the backlash. Guggenheimer stated that Barker's decision to share a teaser for the episode, after she had expressed discomfort with its public release, was the final straw.

"The reason our friendship broke down was because Bill wanted to release a very vulnerable podcast we had recorded back in February, before I made the poor decision to upload a video that resulted in significant online backlash towards me," Guggenheimer told the Daily Mail. She further explained that she made attempts to resolve the issue, but when Barker continued to discuss her publicly, she decided to end contact.

Barker, however, refuted Guggenheimer's narrative, asserting that no podcast episode involving her was ever scheduled for release or published. He declined to comment further on matters concerning Guggenheimer or their mutual friend and former assistant, Annie Arnold.

Speculation about the friendship's demise began in April when Guggenheimer and Barker unfollowed each other on social media. Around the same time, Annie Arnold, who had been Barker's assistant and close friend, began appearing more frequently with Guggenheimer. Arnold has since confirmed she no longer works for Barker and has made cryptic social media posts hinting at a falling out, though she has not provided specific details.

Barker has continued to make veiled references to the situation on TikTok, posting a video captioned "Practising how I'm going to sit down for the documentary about 'Who did I let live in my house?'". Guggenheimer, in turn, has commented on external accusations regarding Barker, stating she has taken accountability for her past mistakes and that Barker is presenting a one-sided view online.

The dispute between the influencers highlights the complexities of public scrutiny and personal relationships within the digital age, with both parties presenting conflicting accounts of their severed friendship.
