Influencer Sloan Byrd has drawn widespread criticism after posting on Instagram about her five-month-old daughter Marie's supposed "10-step skincare routine." The LA-based creator shared details of the bedtime regimen, which she claims helps the infant sleep for extended periods.
Among the steps outlined by Byrd were applying silencers to doors, using a sound machine, and engaging in skin-to-skin contact until the baby is asleep. However, one particular element of the routine, depicted in a carousel post, drew significant attention and sparked backlash from her 213,000 followers.
The image showed Marie, whose father is actor and producer Jackie Long, with Byrd appearing to apply a cotton pad to the baby's cheek. Overlaid text read: "10-step skincare routine started since she was fresh out the womb idc idc." This statement ignited a strong reaction online, with many users expressing concern and disbelief.
Reposting the content on Reddit, one user commented, "Girl, I'm so tired. This is weird and the overconsumption is crazy. Like be for real your infant doesn't need a 10-step skincare routine get a grip." Another warned, "Babies have insanely delicate skin. Contact dermatitis speedrun." Others echoed these sentiments, questioning the necessity and potential harm of such a routine for an infant's sensitive skin.
Some observers suggested Byrd's post might have been intended as a joke or "rage bait." Representatives for Byrd did not immediately respond to requests for comment from the Daily Mail.
Medical experts generally advise that babies have delicate skin that is prone to irritation in the early months of life. According to WebMD, most pediatricians recommend using only the mildest cleansers and minimal lotion for infants. Byrd, known for her lifestyle and beauty content, welcomed her daughter Marie on March 19. Her husband, Jackie Long, is known for his roles in films such as "ATL" (2006), "The Comebacks" (2007), and "Idlewild" (2006).
