Inflatable Hot Dog and Bun Mishap Creates Spectacle at Canadiens Game

A fan promotion at a Montreal Canadiens game took an unexpected turn when an inflatable hot dog and bun landed on the ice, disrupting play and amusing spectators. The incident occurred during a TV timeout in the third period of the Canadiens' game against the Red Wings on Saturday at the Bell Centre.

Fans were attempting to maneuver a large inflatable hot dog into its equally large bun as part of a new arena promotion. However, the hot dog, emblazoned with "Go Habs Go!", overshot the glass and landed on the ice. The bun followed shortly after, narrowly clearing the glass and the Canadiens' bench.

As the inflatable bun descended, Canadiens captain Nick Suzuki and player Juraj Slafkovský attempted to dislodge it with their hockey sticks. It also made contact with players Noah Dobson and Zachary Bolduc. Despite the unexpected interruption, fans responded with cheers and apparent amusement.

"Yeah, that didn’t work out too good for them," Suzuki commented on the promotion's execution. Kaiden Guhle of the Canadiens described the scene as "crazy" and admitted to laughing while players maintained more serious expressions. "I’ve never seen that before. But the fans were having fun, so that’s good," Guhle added.

The inflatable hot dog and bun promotion has gained popularity, notably being featured at MLB games. A notable instance occurred at Kauffman Stadium during a Kansas City Royals game in September.

It remains to be seen if the Canadiens will continue this promotion in future games. The team ultimately secured a 1-0 victory over the Red Wings in a shootout. The win brought the Canadiens' record to 2-2-1, placing them sixth in the Atlantic division. Their next game is scheduled for Tuesday night against Buffalo, while the Red Wings, with a 1-3-1 record, are set to host the Devils.
