Indiana Woman Arrested After Driving Donuts on Courthouse Lawn While Intoxicated

A 67-year-old Indiana woman, identified as Lorraine Phyllis Wilkerson, was arrested on October 5 after allegedly driving donuts on the Jennings County Courthouse lawn while intoxicated.

Wilkerson, a resident of North Vernon, was taken into custody at the courthouse after 5 p.m. Jennings County Sheriff's Office stated in a Facebook post that the arrest followed an incident involving operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, along with several other charges.

Jail records indicate Wilkerson faces two misdemeanor charges: operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration of .08 or more and operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Surveillance footage from the Jennings County Courthouse shows a silver sedan spinning in circles on the lawn, kicking up dust and leaving dark tire marks. During the maneuver, the vehicle struck a traffic sign and narrowly missed a tree, a light post, and a brick bench.

Wilkerson is currently being held on a $5,055 cash bond. It is unknown at this time which court she will appear in or when a hearing will be scheduled.

The Jennings County Sheriff's Office issued a statement reminding the public to drink responsibly and arrange for safe transportation if consuming alcohol. "A Friendly Reminder: If you’ve had a few too many margaritas with dinner, please don’t get behind the wheel, and definitely don’t do donuts on the courthouse lawn," the office posted on Facebook. "We encourage everyone to enjoy themselves responsibly and always make arrangements for a safe ride home if you’ve been drinking."
