Indiana University Shooting Leaves Seven Injured on Homecoming Weekend

At least seven individuals sustained injuries in a mass shooting that occurred early Sunday morning near the Indiana University campus in Bloomington. The incident took place during the university's homecoming weekend festivities.

Bloomington Deputy Chief of Police Ryan Pedigo reported that officers heard multiple gunshots amid a large crowd around 1:30 a.m. They subsequently observed a man fleeing the scene with a firearm. Initial investigations suggest a fight may have preceded the shooting within the crowd.

The conditions of the injured parties remain unknown, but authorities have confirmed no fatalities have been reported. Police are actively working to determine if any other individuals were injured in the incident who have not yet come forward.

Authorities took one person into custody and discovered a firearm nearby. However, it has not yet been confirmed whether this individual is the shooter. Evidence at the scene included shell casings of various calibers, indicating that multiple firearms were discharged.

The shooting occurred on Kirkwood Avenue, a popular student gathering spot, in close proximity to Grant Street and three blocks from the IU campus. The incident happened on the same weekend the Indiana Hoosiers football team secured an overtime victory against Minnesota.
