A substitute teacher in Indiana has been sentenced to two years in jail after pleading guilty to charges stemming from sending explicit images to a 14-year-old middle school student.

Cassidy Carter, 21 at the time of the incident, was sentenced by a judge who gave her two days of credit. She pleaded guilty to one count of battery resulting in moderate bodily injury and another count of battery resulting in moderate bodily injury. Initially, Carter faced a charge of child solicitation, but the plea agreement was altered after the victim indicated a desire not to participate further in the legal proceedings.

The incident occurred while Carter was employed as a substitute teacher for the South Dearborn Community School Corporation. According to court records, the student, who has not been identified, reported the situation to a school resource officer in December 2023. The officer subsequently informed the principal.

Investigators found explicit photos on Carter's phone, as well as messages exchanged with the student. The student told authorities that he and Carter had become friends via Snapchat. During their online conversations, Carter allegedly sent the student nude photos of herself frequently, often while she was showering, and expressed that she was in love with him.
