Indiana Man Accused of IHOP Assault, High-Speed Chase After Alleged Infidelity Confrontation

A man in Muncie, Indiana, faces multiple felony charges after allegedly storming into an IHOP restaurant, confronting a cook he accused of infidelity, and leading police on a high-speed chase.

Austen Wable, 28, is accused of entering the IHOP on Thursday, firing a weapon, and then pursuing a cook with a knife. According to court documents, Wable confronted the cook, shouting, "You f--ked my bitch, bro." During the altercation inside the restaurant, Wable's gun allegedly discharged, resulting in a gunshot wound to the cook's leg.

Wable then reportedly chased the cook into the parking lot with a knife. It remains unclear if he was armed with the knife upon entering the establishment.

Following the incident, Wable fled the scene in a Buick Enclave SUV, initiating a police chase that reached speeds of approximately 110 mph. Court documents describe the vehicle as traveling so fast it nearly went airborne.

The pursuit concluded when Wable crashed the SUV into a house. Upon exiting the vehicle, he appeared disoriented and initially refused to cooperate with law enforcement.

Paramedics treated Wable for a gunshot wound. He has since been charged with three Level 5 felonies: shooting a firearm into an inhabited building, intimidation with a deadly weapon, and unlawful carrying of a handgun. Each Level 5 felony carries a maximum sentence of six years in prison.

Wable has a prior conviction in 2021 for carrying a handgun without a license.
