An 18-year-old Indiana man is facing felony charges after allegedly biting a 9-day-old infant’s face, according to reports. Authorities were alerted to the injuries on July 14 when a pediatrician reported concerns to child protective services, which then prompted an investigation by the Bloomington Police Department.

Kaden Manuel Lewis Shurm allegedly began by "nibbling" on the infant’s cheek before repeatedly biting in a "chomping down" motion in an attempt to stop the baby from crying. According to court documents, Shurm, who weighs approximately 250 pounds, confessed to the act, stating that the baby looked like a "busted up egg" afterward.

The suspect was arrested at the hospital. The condition of the infant was not immediately known. It is unclear if Shurm and the baby were related.

In addition to the felony battery charge with injury to a person under 14, Shurm faces separate felony charges for battery with a deadly weapon and criminal recklessness, as well as a misdemeanor battery charge. He briefly posted a $5,500 bond on the child abuse charge on July 21 but was re-arrested on a warrant for bond revocation related to the prior cases.
