Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White acknowledged efforts to undermine her team's unity this past week, stating that "there's a lot of people out there that are trying to tear it apart." White's comments came after she was booed by the home crowd during a Tuesday game against the New York Liberty, a stark contrast to the ovation she received Friday before the Fever's matchup with the Dallas Wings.

The controversy stemmed from White's initial response to a flagrant-2 foul committed by DiJonai Carrington against Fever player Sophie Cunningham. White's early remarks, made before reviewing the play's replay, suggested she might not have seen the foul as egregious. This led to backlash, with external critics questioning her support for her players.

"When we say we're a family, we mean that. It doesn't mean we always get along, it doesn't mean we always agree, but at the end of the day it means we circle our wagons and we have each other's back," White told reporters Friday. She added that the support from her players and coaching staff has been instrumental in navigating the turbulent week.

Both Cunningham and star player Caitlin Clark publicly defended White on Tuesday. Cunningham emphasized the team's close bond and White's support, stating, "She didn't see the clip. At the end of the day, she didn't see the clip."

Clark drew parallels to her own experiences with intense public scrutiny, telling reporters, "I think we forget a lot of times, like, we're human and she has feelings. There's moments that are really hard." Clark noted that even with a thick skin, criticism can take a toll.

White later clarified her stance on the foul, acknowledging it was "egregious" after reviewing the replay, but reiterated her commitment to her players. The focus shifted back to the court Friday as the Fever secured a victory over the Wings, with Clark and Cunningham leading the team. The win extended the Fever's strong recent performance, having won eight of their last 10 games and solidifying their position as the fourth-place team in the league.
