Goebel Farms in Evansville, Indiana, has faced significant community backlash, including negative online reviews, for its decision to feature a corn maze tribute to the late Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.
The farm defended its choice, stating its intention was to honor Kirk's commitment to free speech and promote civil discourse, rather than to endorse his political views or deepen societal divisions.
Charlie Kirk was fatally shot during a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025. He was 31 years old and a father of two.
In a statement, Goebel Farms acknowledged that Kirk was a polarizing figure with whom many people disagreed. However, the farm emphasized that Kirk was killed while publicly expressing his convictions, and that in a country founded on free speech principles, violence should never be the response to political discussion. The farm's statement highlighted that disagreement should not preclude conversation and listening, asserting that when dialogue ceases, division grows.
Goebel Farms identified itself as a family business, not a political organization, and expressed a hope for Americans to speak openly, disagree honestly, and challenge ideas without hatred or violence. They also stated a desire for the community to continue treating its members with dignity and respect.
Following the announcement of the maze's theme, Goebel Farms reportedly received dozens of negative Google reviews. The business listing appears to have since been removed. The farm's tribute comes as Tyler Robinson, 23, faces trial for Kirk's assassination. A Utah judge recently ruled that prosecutors had presented sufficient evidence to proceed with seven charges against Robinson, including aggravated murder.
