After two years in Belfast, Nidhi Pal and Vik Parashar found a unique way to combat isolation and build a social circle: monthly dinner parties with strangers. The couple established an Instagram page, Masala Talkies, and posted an online form for interested individuals to join them for dinner.

Responding to a realization of their limited social life, Pal and Parashar sought to recreate the sense of community they experienced in India, where they enjoyed hosting friends and family. The online form allows potential guests to share details about their personality and interests, such as their preference for quiet conversation or being the life of the party. Pal and Parashar use this information, along with their intuition, to curate a mix of ten guests for each dinner, aiming to foster good connections.

Inviting unknown individuals into their home presented a challenge, and Pal described the process as nerve-wracking. Despite the initial apprehension, the initiative has led to the formation of approximately 60 new friendships. The guests come from diverse age groups and backgrounds, with many traveling from Belfast and surrounding areas to attend.
