Inde Navarrette Roasts Shane Gillis and Kelly Clarkson on SNL
The 'Obsession' star, hosting Saturday Night Live's Halloween episode, addressed comedian Shane Gillis's controversial gym remarks and poked fun at Clarkson's past toy store incident.
Inde Navarrette, star of the horror film "Obsession," targeted comedian Shane Gillis and a past incident involving singer Kelly Clarkson during her hosting gig on Saturday Night Live's Halloween episode. Navarrette used her monologue to address Gillis's widely criticized remarks about women's attire at the gym.
Navarrette, who is set to play Rogue in an upcoming Marvel X-Men film, joked about her fitness regimen. "I know it's really important for Marvel that you get really fit, so I've been working out a lot," she said. "So every morning I put on my little wh--e outfit, and I hit the gym." This mirrored the sentiment expressed by Gillis during his October 10 SNL appearance, where he commented on women at the gym "just dress like wh--es now."
Gillis's joke had drawn significant online backlash from viewers and celebrities. Navarrette's callback appeared to be a direct jab at his controversial humor.
Later in her monologue, Navarrette enlisted the help of cast members Grace Reiter and Veronika Slowikowska to parody Clarkson's alleged outburst at a Brooklyn toy store. The incident reportedly occurred after Clarkson's attempts to purchase a permanently installed animatronic bird were denied.
Reiter appeared in an elaborate yellow parrot costume, while Slowikowska adopted a more incognito look with a t-shirt, baseball cap, and sunglasses. "Grace, you're a bird!" Navarrette exclaimed, to which Reiter responded, "It's actually a group costume."
Slowikowska then stepped forward, making it clear the sketch was referencing Clarkson. "I want to buy the bird!" she declared in an impression that did not resemble Clarkson's voice. Navarrette then reacted, "Oh my God, it's Kelly Clarkson!"
Navarrette, who gained prominence for her leading role in the horror film "Obsession," effectively used her "SNL" platform to address contemporary comedic controversies and celebrity incidents.
