In-N-Out Burger Plans New West LA Location Near Rival Hamburger Habit

In-N-Out Burger has filed permit applications with the City of Los Angeles to build a new restaurant in the Rancho Park neighborhood on the Westside of the city. The proposed 3,890-square-foot drive-thru restaurant with outdoor dining would be located at 2927-2969 Sepulveda Boulevard, replacing a strip of existing businesses.

The new location places In-N-Out in close proximity to Hamburger Habit, another California-founded burger restaurant situated at 1123 National Avenue, just around the corner.

The proposed In-N-Out site currently houses businesses including Honesto Café, Banter Bar, a hair salon, a nail salon, a boxing studio, and a tattoo shop. The company's plans would necessitate zoning approval to permit the continued use of adjacent, residentially zoned land for parking. According to the filing, the new restaurant is projected to generate an additional 500 or more daily vehicle trips to the parking lot.

In-N-Out also requested a conditional use permit to allow a drive-through adjacent to a residential property. This comes months after In-N-Out's proposed restaurant in Culver City was halted due to an emergency 10-month moratorium placed on new drive-thru restaurants by the City Council, a move spurred by community concerns over increased traffic, long lines, and air pollution.

Hamburger Habit, established in 1990, emphasizes its use of fresh ingredients and features a retro, 1950s-style interior. The restaurant has previously been recognized for its burgers in local media.
