Imperial College London has once again secured the top position in the Daily Mail University Guide's rankings, marking its fourth consecutive year at the forefront of UK higher education.
The guide, which assesses 128 institutions based on data published in the past month, highlights Imperial's continued excellence in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, medicine, and business (STEMMB).
According to the report, Imperial has nearly doubled its lead over the second-ranked university. The institution is recognized not only as a top UK institution but also as one of the world's leading centers for STEMMB studies. In September 2025, nearly half of Imperial's undergraduate intake was recruited from abroad, following a record high in applications.
The university is also noted for its commitment to student support. Bursaries of £1,000 per year are extended to students from households with residual annual incomes of up to £70,000, with further support available based on need. Imperial's efforts to ensure students from under-represented backgrounds achieve parity with their more advantaged peers are described as exceptional.
Student engagement is high, with 11,000 undergraduates involved in at least one of the 400 societies run by the students' union. Graduates from Imperial are in high demand, commanding the highest salaries and securing a large proportion of high-skilled jobs.
Imperial's campus is located in South Kensington, with medical students based across three central London hospitals. The university will introduce three new degrees in September 2027: an MSci in medical science and innovation, and a choice of a BEng or MEng in mathematics and computer science for AI.
The University of Cambridge secured the second position in the rankings, followed by the University of Oxford at third. The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) ranked fourth, with the University of Warwick fifth. Joint sixth positions were held by the University of Bristol and the University of Strathclyde.
