Immigration Agents Search Home of Rep. Ilhan Omar
Homeland Security Investigations executed a search warrant at the Minnesota congresswoman's residence as part of a federal criminal investigation.
U.S. immigration agents searched the Washington, D.C.-area home of Representative Ilhan Omar on Monday morning in connection with an ongoing federal criminal investigation. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents executed a judicially authorized search warrant, a spokesperson for the U.S. Justice Department told CBS News.
No further details regarding the nature of the investigation were immediately available. Omar, who was born in Somalia and came to the United States at age eight while fleeing war, was first elected to Congress in 2018. She is known for being an outspoken critic of former President Donald Trump.
The U.S. Congress is currently out of session, and it was unclear if Omar was present at the residence during the search. The BBC has contacted Omar for comment.
