A former Wendy's employee in Illinois has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for stabbing a co-worker in the face and head while threatening to kill her. Tichina Marshall, 29, was sentenced on Thursday for the attack that occurred in May of last year at a now-closed Wendy's restaurant in Danville.
Prosecutors stated that Marshall had threatened the victim a month prior to the assault. The attack took place while the co-worker was speaking with a manager. Security footage captured Marshall stabbing her colleague at least two times in the face and once on the top of the head. The victim was found bleeding and nearly unconscious with a stab wound to the head and a fractured skull.
Marshall was initially charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery. She faced a potential sentence of up to 30 years. However, the aggravated battery charge was dismissed as part of a plea deal. Marshall pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree murder on Friday.
During the sentencing, State Attorney Jacqueline Lacy noted that the punishment reflected the violent nature of the attack and the severe injuries sustained by the victim. She emphasized that no sentence can fully compensate for the lasting effects of the assault.
Upon her release, Marshall will be subject to three years of mandatory supervised release. The Wendy's restaurant where the incident occurred has since closed.
