Illinois Mother Pleads Not Guilty in Son's Death, Husband Attends Hearing

Corie Walsh, 40, pleaded not guilty on Thursday during a preliminary hearing in the case where she is accused of killing her 2-year-old son, Barrett. Her husband, Michael Walsh, was present in court for the arraignment.

Prosecutors allege that Walsh strangled Barrett and left him hanging from a rafter on September 1, before attempting to harm herself, during what her defense attorney describes as a "psychotic episode."

Walsh's attorney, Andrea Lyon, stated after the hearing that Walsh's family was present to support her, emphasizing that she has no history of violence and was experiencing psychosis. "They all know that and want her to get better. This is not who she is," Lyon told the New York Post.

Prosecutors contend that Walsh also plotted to poison her husband, citing a fixation with the ongoing trial of Lindsay Clancy. Walsh's defense team is reportedly seeking her release to a hospital for psychiatric treatment.

Earlier this month, a judge denied Walsh's request for pretrial release, ruling she was too dangerous to return home, as prosecutors argued she posed a threat to her husband and their three surviving children. Lyon, who previously represented Casey Anthony, announced that her team has subpoenaed treatment information from the jail where Walsh is being held. Micheal Walsh has been present at multiple court appearances for his wife.
