Illinois Mom Charged in Son's Death Allegedly Sang 'Wizard of Oz' Tune

Corie Walsh, an Illinois mother accused of murdering her 2-year-old son, allegedly sang a rendition of "Follow the Yellow Brick Road" from "The Wizard of Oz" while being questioned by investigators, according to court documents.

Walsh, 40, is charged with three counts of first-degree murder in the death of her son, Barrett Walsh. The child was discovered hanging from a rafter in the basement of their Frankfort, Illinois, home on Sept. 1. Responding officers found a neighbor performing CPR on Barrett when they arrived.

Prosecutors have raised questions about a potential link between Walsh's case and the trial of Lindsay Clancy, a Massachusetts mother accused of killing her three children. Walsh had reportedly become "very invested" in the Clancy case and discussed it with friends via text message shortly before her son's death.

During her interview with detectives, Walsh allegedly made statements to police, calling her son the "devil" and the "anti-Christ." Her attorney, Andrea Lyon, stated that Walsh was "psychotic" and rejected any connection between her interest in the Clancy case and the alleged killing.

"She was psychotic. And this is not a first-degree murder," Lyon told reporters.

The case has drawn comparisons to the high-profile trial of Lindsay Clancy, who is accused of fatally strangling her three young children in January 2023. Testimony in Clancy's trial has described a male voice ordering her to kill her children and herself.

Barrett Walsh was found by his two older siblings when they returned home from school on Sept. 1. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death is ongoing.
