An Illinois man is accused of fatally stabbing his half-brother and then enlisting the victim's wife to dismember the body and conceal the remains. The grim discovery unfolded after boaters found a human arm in a lake, which led authorities to additional body parts, including a head, neck, and torso, found in a freezer.

James Adams, 26, and Robin Turner, 62, have been charged with concealment of a homicide and dismembering a human body in connection with the death of Dalewayne Turner, 38. According to Illinois State Police, the investigation began on June 28 when boaters reported seeing a human arm in Lake Mattoon. Subsequent searches uncovered more human remains in the lake and a freezer at a residence.

Authorities identified the remains as Dalewayne Turner based on distinct tattoos on the recovered arm. Court documents indicate that Adams admitted to stabbing his half-brother, claiming it was in self-defense during an argument. Robin Turner reportedly corroborated Adams' account, stating that the argument escalated to Adams stabbing her husband multiple times. She is accused of not contacting law enforcement after the killing.

Investigators allege that Adams and Robin Turner took extensive steps to hide the crime. These actions reportedly included cleaning the home with bleach to mask odors, repainting parts of the house, burning wood paneling in a fire pit, and disposing of rugs. Robin Turner told investigators that the home renovations occurred between June 21 and June 30.

A search of the residence on Wednesday uncovered a downstairs freezer containing what appeared to be a bloodstain. Inside the freezer, investigators found a torso, neck, and head, but no limbs. Authorities stated that the remains were placed in trash bags, weighted down, sealed with duct tape, and dumped into Lake Mattoon. However, one of the weighted bags reportedly tore open, causing the tattooed arm to surface.

Additional weighted bags containing human remains were later found in the lake. Adams and Robin Turner were taken into custody and were scheduled for a detention hearing. A GoFundMe campaign has been established to help cover funeral expenses for Dalewayne Turner.
