Illegal Immigrant Rideshare Driver Charged with Rape in Maryland Had Prior Sex Abuse Arrest in New York
Authorities report the suspect entered the U.S. illegally in December 2023 and was released by the Biden administration.
An illegal immigrant rideshare driver accused of sexually assaulting a teenage passenger in Maryland has a prior arrest for sex abuse in New York City, federal authorities confirmed. Abdoulaye Dia, of Lanham, Maryland, faces charges of first-degree rape, kidnapping, second-degree assault, and third-degree sex offense, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Montgomery County Police responded to a hospital Tuesday where an underage teen reported the assault by an Empower rideshare driver. Dia allegedly took the passenger to a parking lot in Silver Spring, Maryland, where the assault occurred. Investigators identified Dia using information from the rideshare app, and he was arrested Wednesday.
According to a DHS spokesperson, Dia, a citizen of Guinea, was previously arrested in New York City on June 10 for sexual abuse by forcible compulsion, forcible touching of the sexual/intimate parts of another person, injuring a child under 17, and sexual abuse without consent. He entered the United States illegally through Arizona in December 2023 and was released by the Biden administration, DHS stated. Fox News Digital has reached out to Empower for comment.
