Illegal Immigrant Rideshare Driver Charged With Rape in Maryland, Had Prior NYC Arrest
Authorities say the suspect, who entered the U.S. illegally in 2023, faces multiple charges including first-degree rape.
An illegal immigrant rideshare driver has been charged with raping a teenage passenger in Maryland, with authorities revealing he had a prior arrest for sexual abuse in New York City. Abdoulaye Dia, a citizen of Guinea residing in Lanham, Maryland, faces charges of first-degree rape, kidnapping, second-degree assault, and third-degree sex offense, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Montgomery County Police responded to a hospital Tuesday after an underage teen reported a rape. The victim identified Dia, an Empower rideshare driver, as her assailant. Investigators used information from the rideshare app to identify Dia, who was arrested Wednesday.
The alleged assault occurred in a parking lot in Silver Spring, Maryland. DHS reported that Dia entered the United States illegally through Arizona in December 2023 and was released by the current administration.
Dia's prior arrest in New York City on June 10 involved charges of sexual abuse by forcible compulsion, forcible touching of intimate parts, injuring a child under 17, and sexual abuse without consent.
