Illegal Immigrant Accused of Killing IHOP Worker Had Troubled Past, Report Says

An undocumented immigrant from India, identified as Rohit Rohit, allegedly shot and killed Shalini Thakur, a 38-year-old IHOP worker, after a period of fixation, according to new details emerging about his past. Rohit was arrested in Arizona in August 2023 by U.S. Border Patrol agents and subsequently released into the country, a Department of Homeland Security official stated.

Thakur was reportedly shot multiple times outside a Panera Bread in Sacramento, California, and then shot in the head as she lay on the ground, according to Sacramento County Sheriff's officials.

Friends of Thakur told the Daily Mail that she and Rohit, 22, had been dating for about a year before she ended the relationship due to his age. Neighbors reported seeing Rohit park his car near Thakur's apartment and stare at her second-floor balcony.

Friends described Thakur as a hardworking individual who was generous to those in need and had dreams of opening her own beauty salon.
