Ilhan Omar's Staff Allegedly Sought Birthdate Change Amid Federal Probe

Congressional staff for Representative Ilhan Omar allegedly sought to change her birthdate in official state records months after she won her seat in 2018, according to a report citing emails obtained by the New York Post. The Minnesota Democrat had been listed with a birth year of 1981 by the Minnesota Legislative Reference Library and on platforms like Wikipedia and the Biographical Directory of the United States Congress.

In May 2019, Omar's aides reportedly requested the library change her birth year to 1982, stating that the original year was incorrect. This adjustment is significant because Omar has stated she gained U.S. citizenship through her father's naturalization in 2000, a process available to individuals under 18. If born in 1981, critics argue, she would have been an adult at that time and potentially ineligible for that path to citizenship.

These revelations emerge as Omar faces a deepening federal investigation. Homeland Security agents recently executed a search warrant at her Washington D.C. home, seizing property. Investigators are reportedly examining whether false statements were made on immigration paperwork. Omar has denied any wrongdoing, characterizing the raid as an attempt to target political enemies.

Adding to the scrutiny, U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro confirmed her office is investigating the congresswoman's financial disclosures. Omar's 2025 filing initially listed substantial assets shared with her husband, a figure later amended significantly due to alleged accounting errors. While the House's ethics watchdog previously recommended dismissing allegations concerning these filings, the federal investigation continues.

Further complicating matters, federal prosecutors have reportedly served grand jury subpoenas on Omar's sister, Sahra Noor, and at least one other relative as part of the inquiry into the family's immigration history. These subpoenas do not indicate guilt but signal the ongoing nature of the investigation.

When asked about the search of Omar's home, former President Donald Trump stated he had no involvement, directing the matter to the Department of Justice, while also describing Omar as "totally crooked."
