Police in Minneapolis reportedly raided the apartment shared by the son of U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar and seized firearms and ammunition, leading to the arrest of the son's roommate. Law enforcement sources told Alpha News that the search warrant was executed at the home of Adnan, Omar's son, on Tuesday night.
According to the outlet, officers recovered guns and ammunition from the residence. Abdulrahman Abdi, 22, Adnan Omar's roommate, was arrested at the scene. The Minneapolis Police Department stated that officers had initially conducted a traffic stop earlier on Tuesday, citing Abdi for driving without proof of insurance and a license. He was released at the scene, but a firearm was discovered inside the vehicle as it was being impounded.
Officers later located Abdi at an address on Marquette Avenue, where they arrested him "without incident." Records indicate Abdi was booked into Hennepin County Jail on a weapons charge and subsequently released on Wednesday night.
Court records reviewed by the Daily Mail show Abdi has a history of convictions, primarily misdemeanors. In 2024, he was convicted of a felony after being cited for traveling at 108 miles per hour in St. Paul while driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee alongside another vehicle. He pleaded guilty to fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle and received a one-day jail sentence, along with two years of supervised probation. His prior convictions, dating back to 2022, include offenses such as using a cell phone while driving, excessive speeding, and failing to provide proof of insurance.
Last year, Representative Omar publicly stated that her son had been stopped by federal immigration agents who questioned his citizenship. She recounted that he was pulled over after visiting a Target store and was released only after presenting his U.S. passport. Omar also claimed that ICE agents had previously entered a mosque where her son and others were praying, departing without making any arrests.
