Ilhan Omar's Legal Name Revealed in Federal Court Filing Amid Immigration Fraud Probe

Federal prosecutors have referred to Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) by a legal name different from her public identity, listing her as "Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, a/k/a Ilhan Abdullahi Omar," in a recent court filing. This revelation emerged in a document filed in Washington D.C. federal court related to an immigration fraud investigation into the congresswoman.

Todd Blanche, an attorney, commented on the filing, stating, "I don’t think AUSAs would make up names," when asked about the surname being nearly identical to that of Omar's ex-husband, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi. Blanche added, "Evidence that’s collected is used in motions." A source familiar with the investigation confirmed to The Post that "Omar" is not the congresswoman's birth surname, a detail previously reported by Fox News.

The legal filing comes amid an ongoing investigation into alleged immigration fraud. Omar and her staff have previously denied accusations that she married her brother in 2009 to assist him in obtaining a green card. When asked directly on MS NOW on Wednesday if she was related to her former husband, Omar responded, "Not to my knowledge."

Homeland Security officers were observed carrying boxes of evidence from Omar's Washington D.C. residence earlier in the month, indicating the scope of the federal probe. Reps for Omar's congressional office and her defense attorneys did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
