Tim Mynett, husband of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), was seen publicly on Tuesday for the first time since the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) raided their Washington, D.C. residence. The sighting occurred just days after Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents executed a search warrant and removed belongings from the home early Monday morning.
Mynett was photographed walking the couple's yellow labrador retriever, Teddy, near their home. The raid is believed to be connected to an ongoing criminal fraud investigation concerning the congresswoman's immigration paperwork.
President Trump has been critical of Omar and her financial situation. On Tuesday, he questioned the couple's ability to afford their Washington residence and alluded to "fraudulent activities." Trump pointed to a significant reported increase in Omar's net worth, which she had previously attributed to an accounting discrepancy.
"Where did her house come from, where did her cars come from, and what about her lovely place in Washington, D.C.?" Trump posted on Truth Social. "I didn’t know that Congressmen and women made that kind of money, but I do know her husband, according to information and belief, makes almost nothing, so it couldn’t have come from him."
Trump also raised questions about the source of Omar's wealth, referencing her past financial disclosures. According to previous reports, Mynett had valued his venture capital firm, Rose Lake Capital, and a defunct wine business at up to $30 million in Omar's 2024 financial disclosure. However, in her 2025 disclosure, Mynett reported no income from the venture capital firm and only $200 to $1,000 from the wine business, which ceased operations in April.
Omar's office did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
