Ilhan Omar's Husband Seen at Home During Federal Investigation
Tim Mynett was photographed entering the couple's Washington D.C. residence a day after Homeland Security Investigations agents executed a search warrant.
Tim Mynett, the husband of Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., was seen entering their shared Washington, D.C., residence on Tuesday, the day after Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents executed a search warrant at the property. Mynett was observed walking a dog before entering the home.
The HSI raid is reportedly part of a criminal fraud investigation into Omar's immigration paperwork, according to two sources familiar with the operation. This development comes as U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro's office is investigating Omar's financial disclosures related to the couple's reported net worth.
The controversy surrounding Omar's finances intensified following her 2024 financial report, which estimated her and Mynett's assets between $6 million and $30 million. A significant change was noted in Mynett's reported assets: his ownership interests in his winery and a venture capital advisory firm, previously valued in the millions, were listed with no value in the latest disclosure.
Omar's office previously stated that Mynett has partners in both businesses and that the initial disclosure mistakenly reflected the businesses' total equity rather than his ownership interest. The office also noted that the original filing listed assets without accounting for liabilities.
Mynett, a political consultant, was a partner in a firm that worked on Omar’s 2020 re-election campaign. The couple announced their marriage in March 2020.
This investigation adds to past controversies surrounding the congresswoman, including scrutiny over her first marriage, which some alleged was part of an immigration scheme. A former federal prosecutor indicated that while a "criminal" investigation into Omar was confirmed by former White House border czar Tom Homan, statute of limitations issues could make investigating the past marriage allegations difficult.
A Department of Justice spokesperson confirmed that the search warrant executed on Monday was judicially authorized and obtained as part of an ongoing federal investigation.
