Ilhan Omar's Home Searched in Immigration Fraud Investigation; Past Comments Resurface
Federal agents executed a search warrant at the congresswoman's D.C. residence as part of a criminal probe into immigration paperwork.
Agents with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) executed a judicially authorized search warrant at the Washington, D.C., home of Rep. Ilhan Omar early Monday morning as part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation into immigration fraud. The search stems from an inquiry into naturalization or immigration issues related to paperwork filled out when Omar was a child.
Omar, a Democrat representing Minnesota, addressed the raid on social media, calling it an "attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement." She stated, "For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation. I will not be silenced."
A Department of Justice spokesperson confirmed the enforcement action was part of a criminal investigation, adding that "continuing false statements on current documents can constitute new criminal acts, bypassing any statute of limitations."
Following the news of the raid, social media users quickly pointed to a previous statement made by Omar in 2023, where she declared, "no one is above the law," in response to former President Donald Trump's indictment. Various conservative accounts and figures on X, formerly Twitter, shared Omar's past comment, juxtaposing it with the current investigation.
The Minnesota Republican Party posted on X, "She said it best back in 2023, when the subject of a criminal investigation was someone else. We couldn't agree more, Congresswoman. We're sure you still feel the same way now that it's your front door."
Other social media users echoed similar sentiments, with comments such as "No one is above the law" and "Ilhan Omar was right. Nobody is above the law."
Omar has faced scrutiny over her immigration status and financial disclosures during her tenure in Congress. A source familiar with the operation told Fox News Digital that the investigation is criminal in nature.
