Ilhan Omar Reaffirms 'Ilhan Abdullahi Omar' as Her Name Amid Federal Probe
The congresswoman stated her full name after a court filing in an immigration fraud investigation listed her differently.
Rep. Ilhan Omar stated that her name is "Ilhan Abdullahi Omar" after a federal court filing identified the congresswoman by a name different from what she uses publicly. The filing in a D.C. federal court, related to an immigration fraud investigation, referred to the Minnesota Democrat as "Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, a/k/a Ilhan Abdullahi Omar."
When directly asked about her name by Fox News Digital at the Karmel Mall of Somalia in Minnesota, Omar responded, "Ilhan Abdullahi Omar, you know it. It’s Ilhan Abdullahi Omar."
Sources familiar with the investigation, including a law enforcement source, had previously indicated that Omar's name is Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, with "Elmi" being the surname of her ex-husband, who has also been the subject of allegations that he is her brother. One source disputed Omar's account, telling Fox News Digital, "That’s not her real name."
Omar's spokesperson has repeatedly denied claims about her name being Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, calling such reports "completely false" and dismissing allegations of a marriage to her brother as a "disgusting conspiracy theory."
The controversy emerged as federal prosecutors filed a motion seeking to prevent the unsealing of a federal search warrant executed at Omar's Washington, D.C. residence. The motion stated that the government is still in the process of executing the warrant and argued it should not be unsealed. The filing itself noted "Applications to unseal ex parte materials and proceedings related to a federal search warrant for the personal residence in the District of Columbia of Congresswoman Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, a/k/a Ilhan Abdullahi Omar."
An immigration judge previously suggested that if proven in court that Omar had not been using her "real name," every form she has ever submitted could become subject to investigation.
Omar's Washington, D.C. home was searched by Homeland Security Investigations earlier this month as part of a probe into potential immigration fraud related to her naturalization or that of her father. Federal authorities have since issued subpoenas to family members and seized her cellphone as part of the ongoing investigation.
