Ilhan Omar Investigation is 'Large Case' Involving Multiple People, Says DHS Secretary
Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin stated that the federal probe into Rep. Ilhan Omar is significant and extends beyond a single individual, with the Department of Justice leading the inquiry.

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin announced that the federal investigation involving Rep. Ilhan Omar is extensive and encompasses multiple individuals. "This isn’t just a case that’s targeting one individual. This is a large case that we have presented to the DOJ, and the DOJ is leading the investigations," Mullin told Fox News.
Mullin affirmed that Homeland Security Investigations conducted thorough groundwork prior to presenting the case to the Department of Justice. "We’re enforcing our nation’s laws, and we’re going to do that. We’re not weaponizing. We’re not using political theater on this," he stated.
The remarks come as reports indicate Omar crossed out her surname, replacing it with "Elmi" and then reverting to "Omar" on a certified copy of her 2009 marriage license on file with Hennepin County, Minnesota officials. Authorities are reportedly examining allegations of immigration fraud and false statements on government documents against the 44-year-old congresswoman.
Mullin, a former Republican senator from Oklahoma, defended the timing of prosecutorial actions close to an election, asserting that the enforcement of laws is applied equally regardless of an individual's political affiliation or position. "I don’t care where you’re seated, and I don’t care how you’re registered to vote, I don’t care what your job title is. We use it equally," he said.
He also contrasted the current situation with past actions, suggesting that political opponents had previously targeted individuals. "I’ve made this very, very, very, very clear: we’re enforcing our nation’s laws across the board equally, and we’re going to continue to do that," he added.
Omar has denied any wrongdoing, and her legal team has requested the return of seized materials and devices. Her office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
