Ilhan Omar Investigation Includes Multiple Warrants, DHS Secretary Says

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin confirmed that federal agents executed multiple warrants on the same day a raid occurred at the Washington, D.C., home of Rep. Ilhan Omar as part of an ongoing investigation. The probe is reportedly focused on immigration papers filed on behalf of Omar when she was a child.

Mullin stated on the Charlie Kirk Show that while he could not specify who the warrants were served upon, it was not an isolated action. "There was multiple other warrants served on that same day," he said, reinforcing his previous assertion that the raid on Omar's home on Monday was not politically motivated.

The investigation, first revealed in mid-September by former border czar Tom Homan, is expected to be presented to a grand jury, according to Mullin. "We wouldn't move forward, and President Trump didn't want to move forward either, unless we knew that it couldn't be politically driven," Mullin stated. "This was about enforcing once again our nation's laws, and it's a strong case."

Mullin also indicated days before the raid that the investigation extended beyond allegations concerning Omar's 2009 marriage, warning that removal proceedings could follow if wrongdoing is established. Omar has faced accusations, which she has denied, that she married her brother to facilitate his immigration into the United States.

Former President Barack Obama issued a statement on Sunday denouncing the investigation as a politically motivated action by the Trump administration. "It is a basic principle of American democracy that the government can't selectively target individuals simply because of their political beliefs or what they say," Obama wrote on X, formerly Twitter. "But that's exactly what the Trump Administration is doing to Congresswoman Ilhan Omar of Minnesota."

Obama detailed that Omar immigrated to the U.S. with her father at age 12 and automatically became a citizen five years later when her father naturalized. He suggested the probe aimed to establish that Omar was 18 at the time of her father's naturalization, which he argued would be a basis for deportation. "The full weight of the federal government is being brought down on a law-abiding elected official because she has dared to criticize the president," Obama said.

President Trump, when asked about the investigation prior to Mullin's statements, told reporters, "I think she's a terrible person, but that's really up to the DOJ." Omar, a member of the progressive "Squad," has been a frequent critic of Trump.

The raid on Omar's home occurred less than seven weeks after Minneapolis police seized guns and ammunition from an apartment shared by Omar's son, Adnan Hirsi, 20, and his roommate, who was arrested on a weapons charge.
