Idaho Ballot to Feature State Gun Vote
Voters will choose from a selection of historically significant firearms.
Voters in Idaho will have the opportunity to designate an official state gun through a ballot measure this fall. The question asks citizens to select one firearm from a list of seven historically significant options.
The choices presented on the ballot include the Winchester Model 1894 (.30-30), the Winchester Model 1873 "Gun that Won the West" (.44-40), the 1873 Colt Single Action Army Revolver "Peacemaker" (.45 Colt), the M1 Garand rifle (.30-06), the Colt M1911 .45 automatic Colt pistol (.45 ACP), and the Remington Model 700 bolt-action rifle (.30-06).
These firearms were chosen for their ties to Idaho's history and the nation's development, ranging from weapons associated with westward expansion and frontier settlement to those used by U.S. troops in World War II and the Korean War.
