A distinctive Starbucks location in Burbank, California, is closing its doors after nearly three decades of operation. The store, situated next to the landmark Bob's Big Boy on Riverside Drive and affectionately nicknamed "Bobbucks" by locals, will serve its final customers on Saturday.
The closure comes as Starbucks continues a strategy of shutting down underperforming stores and those that do not align with the company's vision for customer and employee experience. This particular location has been noted by patrons for its unique, freestanding design, ample natural light, and integration into the surrounding neighborhood, offering a different atmosphere compared to more typical Starbucks outlets found within office buildings or shopping centers.
Longtime customers and local community groups have expressed sadness over the impending closure. Preserve Burbank, an Instagram account dedicated to the city's history and architecture, thanked the staff for "decades of good coffee and fun" and stated that the Toluca Lake and Burbank areas "will miss you."
This Burbank closure is occurring amidst a larger wave of store reductions by the coffee giant. Starbucks has announced plans to close approximately 250 additional stores across North America in the near future. The company has not specified if the Riverside Drive location is part of this broader round of closures, but its nearly 30-year run marks the end of an era for many in the community.
