Iconic 'Devil Wears Prada' Chanel Jacket Surfaces on Resale Market for $10,200

A signature Chanel jacket, famously worn by Anne Hathaway in the 2006 film "The Devil Wears Prada," has appeared on the resale platform The RealReal with a price tag of $10,200.

The jacket, designed by Karl Lagerfeld and acquired by stylist Patricia Field during the movie's production, is part of the film's notable makeover montage. In the scene, Hathaway's character, Andy Sachs, undergoes a transformation, showcasing the jacket as she impresses her colleagues and superiors.

Field, who also styled "Sex and the City," encountered challenges in sourcing high-fashion pieces for the film. Designers and their publicists were reportedly hesitant to lend clothing due to fears of offending Anna Wintour, the inspiration for Meryl Streep's character, Miranda Priestly, and the editor-in-chief of Vogue. However, Lagerfeld recognized the film's potential positive impact.

"They thought it was a sensitive political issue," Field told The Post at the time. "But it didn’t matter," as Hathaway's star power and Lagerfeld's foresight prevailed.

The 2006 film was a commercial success, grossing over $326 million worldwide and contributing to the rise of Hathaway and co-star Emily Blunt. The film's enduring popularity has led to a sequel, which has also achieved significant box office returns.

Currently, The RealReal lists three variations of the Chanel jacket. The primary item is available in a size 36 for $10,200. Additionally, two larger sizes, a 42 and a 48, are offered for approximately $8,400 and $9,500, respectively. These sizes cater to a wider range of potential buyers.

Each jacket features Chanel's distinctive gold-stamped buttons, woven wool fabric, and logo badges adorned with the number five.
