The Batmobile featured in Tim Burton's 1992 film "Batman Returns" is heading to auction with an estimated sale price of $5 million to $7 million. Los Angeles-based Julien's Auctions is handling the sale, anticipating it could challenge the record for the highest price ever paid for a Batmobile at auction.

The previous record was set in 2013 when George Barris's 1966 Batmobile sold for $4.6 million. The "Batman Returns" Batmobile measures approximately 19 feet, 8 inches long and is built on a chassis formed by joining two Chevrolet Impala frames.

According to Julien's Auctions, this particular vehicle was designated the 'Number One Hero' car used in the film and has been screen-matched for most of the driving sequences. Catherine Williamson, Managing Director of Entertainment at Julien's Auctions, noted the car's "striking silhouette and unmistakable presence" as representing "the ultimate intersection of groundbreaking design, Hollywood history, and automotive collectability." She added that the car "defined a new era of the legendary Batman character on screen" and "changed Batman and comic book blockbusters forever."

The auction, titled "The Ultimate Batmobile Auction," is scheduled to take place on November 23.
