Rapper and actor Ice-T, known legally as Tracy Lauren Marrow, has shared his advice for maintaining a successful marriage after more than two decades with his wife, Coco Austin. Speaking at a press event for the celebrity competition series "Nation's Dumbest," where he co-stars with Jon Heder, Ice-T highlighted the importance of consistent communication and preserving the initial spark of a relationship.
"I think in a relationship, I think you just have to do what got you guys started," Ice-T told Fox News Digital. "You know, when you first started dating, you can’t get rid of date night."
He elaborated that despite life's inevitable stresses and dramas, couples should strive to return to those foundational moments. "Talk a lot. You know? Never let a problem fester. If there’s a problem, let’s get it out. Let’s talk about it quick. Don’t let it sit," he advised, emphasizing the need to address issues promptly rather than allowing resentment to build.
Jon Heder, who has also been married for a significant period, added that for Ice-T, "expanding" has also played a role in their enduring partnership. Ice-T agreed, stating, "Yeah, expand. I expand. If I don’t expand right, you know, women need expansion."
Ice-T and Coco Austin have been married since 2002 and share a 10-year-old daughter, Chanel Nicole Marrow. Heder married his wife, Kirsten, in the same year, and they have four children.
"Nation's Dumbest," hosted by Jack Whitehall, is a new FOX celebrity competition series that puts a comedic spin on the game show format. Twelve celebrities, including Ice-T and Heder, return to a "summer school" setting to compete in trivia, physical games, and school-themed challenges. However, the show's objective is not to win, but to be eliminated. Each week, the best-performing contestant "graduates," while the others remain. The last celebrity standing is crowned "The Nation's Dumbest."
Ice-T recounted a particular challenge from the show that stumped him: spelling the word "guarantee." He admitted that in the high-pressure environment of the competition, his mind went blank, and he misspelled it despite knowing the correct spelling. The inaugural cast of "Nation's Dumbest" also includes Hilaria Baldwin, Carmen Electra, Anthony Michael Hall, Chase Hudson, Elle King, Matt Leinart, Dr. Drew Pinsky, Steve-O, JoJo Siwa, and Andrew Yang.
The series is designed to deliver laughs by reversing the typical goal of winning. It blends pop quizzes, report cards, and recess-inspired games with Whitehall's humor. "Nation's Dumbest" premieres Wednesday, July 15, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on FOX and will be available for streaming the following day on Hulu.
