U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has been ordered to temporarily halt its practice of conducting vehicle stops, according to sources familiar with the directive.
Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin issued the order. The pause is temporary, and ICE officers are expected to receive new training on vehicle stop procedures.
This development comes in the wake of two recent fatal shootings. One of these incidents involved an ICE-involved shooting in Maine where officials stated the man killed was not the intended target of the operation.
