U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has lodged a detainer for Felipe Alvarado Hernandez, a 47-year-old immigrant accused of striking four pedestrians with a pickup truck in downtown Nashville. The incident occurred on June 13, when Hernandez allegedly drove a pickup truck onto a sidewalk while attempting a left turn, injuring four people. Two of the victims required wheelchairs, and one remained hospitalized in the Vanderbilt University Medical Center Burn Unit as of July 29.

Hernandez was arrested on July 28, more than a month after the crash, and faces charges including leaving the scene of an accident, failure to provide information or render aid, failure to file a report of an accident with injury or damage, financial responsibility violation with injury, and driving with a revoked license. License plate reader technology was used to identify the pickup truck involved in the incident.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, Hernandez entered the country on an unspecified date and location. He had previously agreed to depart the U.S. on January 5, 2004, following an arrest on a retail fraud charge in Michigan, which was later dropped. ICE lodged the detainer after Hernandez was charged in the Nashville incident.

"When illegal aliens break our laws and endanger our communities, ICE will work with our law enforcement partners to ensure they face the consequences of their actions," said ERO New Orleans acting Field Office Director Scott Ladwig. "Our officers remain committed to enforcing the law professionally, protecting the public, and upholding the trust placed in us by the American people."
