U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has removed Daniel Ogama Adongo, a 37-year-old former linebacker for the Indianapolis Colts, from Chicago.
Adongo, a national of Kenya, was taken into ICE custody in June and subsequently deported on June 20. According to ICE, his removal was a result of overstaying his visa, which he entered on in 2016, and a criminal record. His arrests over the past decade include charges for felony intimidation, battery, and disorderly conduct, as well as a 2020 conviction for criminal mischief with damage, for which he received a one-year jail sentence.
An immigration judge issued an order for Adongo's removal in March. ICE Chicago Assistant Field Office Director Douglas Thompson stated that Adongo was a "dangerous individual" and that the community is now safer following his removal.
Adongo first came to the United States after being recruited to play rugby and later played for the Colts from 2013 to 2015. ICE emphasized its commitment to arresting and deporting individuals in the country illegally who have committed crimes. The agency noted that nearly 70% of its arrests involve individuals charged or convicted of crimes in the U.S.
