Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, suspended an arrest operation on June 29 to rescue a woman who was trapped in a vehicle following a rollover crash. The agents were preparing for an arrest when they heard the collision and immediately responded to the scene.
The crash occurred at the intersection of 20th Street and Cleveland Avenue when one vehicle ran a stoplight, colliding with another and causing one of the cars to roll over and strike a light pole. A 31-year-old woman was pinned inside her vehicle as a result of the impact.
Agents called 911 and then worked to free the woman from the wreckage. They provided initial first aid until emergency medical technicians arrived on the scene. A Department of Homeland Security spokesperson stated that the agents exemplify federal law enforcement's best, adding that despite criticism, ICE officers put their lives on the line to make communities safer.
"Our best of the best ICE officers put their lives on the line to arrest the worst of the worst," the spokesperson said. Acting Assistant DHS Secretary Lauren Bis called the agents, whose identities were withheld for their safety, heroes who demonstrate the best qualities of federal law enforcement.
"Despite smears and hoaxes spread by sanctuary politicians and the media, our officers put their lives on the line to make our communities safer," Bis said. "They are heroes."
This incident is one of several recent instances highlighting ICE officers' actions in emergency situations. In another case, an ICE agent is credited with rescuing a drowning child in Florida by performing CPR, and another agent provided aid to a choking child while assisting TSA agents.
