An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent fatally shot an individual on Thursday during a traffic stop in Houston, Texas, after the individual allegedly attempted to ram agents with a vehicle and ignored commands to stop. The agency identified the deceased as Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a Mexican national.

According to ICE, Salgado was involved in an operation the agency was conducting in Houston when agents attempted to pull his vehicle over. Officials allege that Salgado attempted to flee, rammed an ICE vehicle, and then tried to use his car to strike an ICE agent. An agent then discharged a firearm, striking Salgado, who was transported to a hospital and later died.

Salgado's son told Telemundo Houston that his father was in the area seeking to hire workers. Officials stated Salgado was an undocumented immigrant.

This incident is one of several recent fatal encounters involving ICE agents and individuals in vehicles. In September 2025, ICE agents in Chicago fatally shot a man who authorities said rammed officers and dragged one underneath his car. Separately, anti-ICE activist Renee Nicole Good was killed by immigration agents in Minneapolis after the agency claimed she attempted to drive her vehicle at an agent. Activists contested that claim, leading to protests.
