Australian Hyrox athlete Joanna Wietrzyk has stated that she made the wrong decision when she continued to compete after experiencing a bout of diarrhea during a race in Beijing.
Wietrzyk told the BBC that her determination to win the September competition clouded her judgment. Images of the incident, showing fecal matter on parts of her body, were widely circulated online.
"I didn't really think about those around me… the decision that I made in hindsight was the wrong decision and I'm truly sorry for everyone that I did affect," Wietrzyk said.
She also commented on the social media reaction to the event, suggesting that she should not have faced such backlash, emphasizing that she is "only human."
