Husband Clings to Hope as New Clues Emerge in Wife's Six-Month Disappearance
Investigators discover new hiking route interests in the journal of missing coffee shop owner Amy Hillyard.
Six months after Amy Hillyard vanished, her husband Chris Hillyard is maintaining hope as private investigators uncover new details that may shed light on her disappearance. Hillyard, 52, co-owner of Farley's Coffee in Oakland, California, was last seen walking her dog in the Cleveland Heights area in late March. Oakland Police stated at the time that she was considered at risk due to an undisclosed medical condition.
Steve Fischer, a private investigator hired by the family, has been re-examining Hillyard's digital footprint. According to SFGATE, Fischer discovered that Hillyard had spent time reviewing eight different hiking routes in Oakland and Berkeley the day before she disappeared. Five of these routes were previously unknown to the investigative team. Fischer noted that some of these trails are extensive, potentially spanning up to seven miles.
These findings align with information from Hillyard's journal, where she had written about hiking as a method for managing mental health struggles, Fischer told SFGATE. Recent search efforts have utilized drones to survey parks Hillyard frequented. These drones captured 3,500 high-resolution photos, which investigators and volunteers are currently reviewing for any relevant clues.
To date, the only recorded evidence of Hillyard's movements on the day she went missing is surveillance footage showing her leaving her house. Fischer expressed a belief that Hillyard may have been walking to clear her head and could be in a remote area. He also stated that while he hopes she decided to leave and start a new life, the lack of any digital footprint after six months makes such a scenario increasingly unlikely.
The family is offering a $25,000 reward for information that could lead to new developments in the case.
