Leland Jameson, 64, has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of his wife, Chisen Azuma Jameson, 60. The shooting occurred Sunday night at the couple's home in Fair Oaks, Virginia, a Fairfax County suburb.

Police were alerted by a distressed 911 call placed at 10:21 p.m. The operator reportedly heard sounds consistent with a disturbance before the call ended. A second call was placed later, though details about its content or caller were not immediately released. Responding officers arrived at the $1 million, four-bedroom residence and discovered Chisen Azuma Jameson deceased from apparent gunshot wounds to her upper body.

Investigators quickly determined that Leland Jameson was responsible for the shooting, and he was taken into custody. He was subsequently charged and denied bail on charges of second-degree murder and using a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Leland Jameson has worked as a program director of computational and applied mathematics at the National Science Foundation for over two decades, reviewing grant applications for federal funding. He is also a known speaker at scientific and government conferences.

Chisen Azuma Jameson, originally from Osaka, Japan, had a career with All Nippon Airways, a Japanese airline. She moved to the United States several decades ago.

The couple's son, Leland Jr., has a background in college soccer, having played for clubs in the Netherlands and Japan. He later coached at MacLean High School, reaching the Virginia state championship game in 2024, and most recently became head coach at Academy Of Central Florida in Orlando.
